Patience, Compassion and Wisdom

Buddhist and Daoist Studies

Our practices are based on Buddhist Chan and Pure Land Methods and Daoist Cultivation. Practices vary from standing, sitting, walking, and lying. Each practice is a complement to the next in that the underlying principle of all of them is the three pillars of proper cultivation: Patience, Compassion and Wisdom.

The practices within Jing Xin Yuan are founded in Patience, Compassion and Wisdom. With these 3 pillars of cultivation, the cultivator can rest assured they will succeed in their practice without stepping off the proper path. At Jing Xin Yuan, Daoist and Buddhist practices are cultivated side by side without conflict. Both Buddhist and Daoist practices hold firm to the foundation of virtue, morality and wisdom, as well as internal cultivation and investigation of the mind, therefore our goals in cultivation lead to the same place.

Cultivation means to investigate the mind, tend to the mind ground and nurture the seeds of enlightenment. This entails adhering to principles and regulating one’s habits, changing one’s character and maintaining proper views of Right Views, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Conduct, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.

These eight guidelines are known as Shakyamuni Buddha’s Noble Eight Fold Path. They are the essence of proper cultivation whether it is for spiritual attainments, health, mental stability, or living a good and balanced life. Whatever one’s views, keeping to proper guidelines to ensure safety in cultivation is always a good thing regardless of the expedient in which the method appears.
